Failed States

Documentation of a performance in which the body is employed as a geopolitical metaphor, ultimately subdued by its immediate surroundings. The work reflects on the contradictions of power among the world’s leading nations, turning symbols of stability into signs of denial and fragility, as they are unable or unwilling to respond to the responsibilities that define sovereignty.

The Group of Seven is a forum of leading industrialized nations—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States that wields significant political, economic, and military influence on a global scale. Its origins trace back to March 25, 1973, when U.S. Treasury Secretary George Shultz convened finance ministers from the United States, Japan, West Germany, France, and the United Kingdom in what became known as the "Library Group" (named after the White House library where they met). Italy was subsequently incorporated into the group in November 1975 during a summit held at the Château de Rambouillet in France, while Canada joined in June 1976 at a summit held at the Dorado Beach Hotel in Puerto Rico.
