The Course of Empire

A silent one-and-a-half-hour-long color video in which the camera focuses on the Torre Latinoamericana in Mexico City. The tower is the world's first major skyscraper successfully built on highly active seismic land.

The video references Andy Warhol’s "Empire" 1964, an eight-hour-long, silent, black-and-white film that features the Empire State Building in New York City from dusk to dawn. The title of the video is a nod to a series of paintings created by Thomas Cole from 1833 to 1836, where the artist chronicles the rise and fall of an imagined city.
